The restaurant is beautiful and has a very refined atmosphere. A great place for lunch. If you’re looking to try king crab, caviar, or Arctic char, this is the place to do it. Everything was very fresh. The bread and butter were also outstanding, and the staff were kind, attentive, and took the time to explain each dish.

Tromsø is best known for its seafood, and Fiskekompaniet, a harbor-side restaurant overlooking the waterfront, is among the city's finest places to enjoy it. I opted for the 6-course dinner (1,195 NOK; 2,345 NOK with wine pairing) and added a glass of white wine (190 NOK). A note for visitors: in Norway, wine pairings typically mean a full glass per course, considerably more than in many other countries. It's worth factoring in your alcohol tolerance before ordering. Bread and butter were served ahead of the first course. The menu consisted of: ・Arctic char from Sigerfjord — served with yellow beets, honey, and mustard. Exceptionally fresh and tender, with restrained smoking and minimal seasoning that allowed the fish to shine. Delicate and precisely balanced, like a quiet waltz executed perfectly. ・Saithe from Tromvik — paired with beurre blanc and herbs. The silky, buttery sauce contrasted nicely with the fennel and complemented the fish well. ・Scallop from Nordnesøy — lightly charred, served with celeriac and hollandaise. The creamy sauce enveloped the scallop without overwhelming its natural sweetness. ・Langoustine from Hitra — fresh and sweet, topped with a crisp garnish and accompanied by carrot and sea buckthorn. ・Catch of the day — served with turnip, miso, and chicken jus. Subtle, warming flavors that felt comforting yet refined. ・Passionfruit crémeux — vanilla ice cream with apricot sauce and biscuits, a light and satisfying finish. The meal unfolded at a relaxed pace, lasting from around 17:30 to 20:00 — leisurely, but noticeably more concise than many tasting menus. Service was professional, if somewhat reserved, with staff speaking fluent English. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the décor understated yet elegant. Pricing sits at the higher end by Tromsø standards, comparable to Emmas Drømmekjøkken. Online reservations are available via a smooth, user-friendly system, and advance booking is strongly recommended — the restaurant was fully booked for dinner on the day of my visit, and on another occasion I also observed it fully booked at lunchtime. Overall, a refined and memorable dining experience, and one of Tromsø's best options for seafood. A must-visit, provided the budget allows.

An unforgettable dining experience in Tromsø. If you're ever in Tromsø and appreciate exceptional seafood, Fiskekompaniet is a must-visit. From start to finish, our evening was a true pleasure — a celebration of local ingredients and Nordic flavours done with both creativity and care. We chose the four-course menu, and every dish was beautifully presented and full of depth. The flavours didn’t just taste good — they unfolded gradually, dancing across the palate in the most unexpected and delightful ways. It was both refined and generous — in fact, we found ourselves struggling to finish the final course simply because there was so much food! The service was seamless — warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without ever feeling intrusive. It’s clear the staff care deeply about both the food and the experience. The setting is equally impressive: right by the water, with a calm and elegant atmosphere that perfectly complements the meal. What stood out most was how well the restaurant showcased fresh, local produce from the region. It felt like more than just a meal — it was a taste of Tromsø itself. You won’t leave hungry, but more importantly, you’ll leave with lasting memories of exceptional food, welcoming service, and a true sense of place.
