Ulva's Guided Walks

Today we spent the afternoon with our guide Darren and what a great day of bird watching and hiking. Darren was very knowledgeable and we saw many of Ulva Islands unique birds including the smallest New Zealand bird the Rifleman male and female feeding their chicks. We even were charged by a male leopard seal on the beach. Darren reminded us to remain calm and keep a backpack between the seal and us. The entire afternoon was a great experience. I highly recommend Ulva's guided walks and ask for Darren.

A wonderful experience with Ulva's Guided Walks. Friendly, helpful staff and very knowledgeable, their commentary and conversation made the very best of the tour. Spotting a large female Stewart Island Brown Kiwi almost as soon as we got out of the van was a real bonus. I love that booking through this company also helps conservation causes.

Absolutely fantastic time. We started the day with Grace for a bird tour of Ulva island. She is such a fantastic guide and it was great to see just how excited she was to find the different species for us. She was totally ok going at our pace and super nice about answering all the questions. Absolutely fantastic guide. Ask for her if you get a chance and you won't be disappointed. Ended the day with a night kiwi tour. Again, our guide Dan was fantastic. He also genuinely cared about what he was doing. We searched high and low and found kiwi and even got to see a territory fight between two kiwi. He was also very conscientious about making sure everyone in the group was ok and stayed safe while walking at night. I also appreciate how helpful the company was as we were coming in the off-season. They responded to my emails and messages promptly and made sure that everything was taken care of. These two guides are exemplary and a credit to the company they work for, and the person who managed the responses and emails is fantastic. Absolutely the best experience.
