We had been in Iceland for a few days and had already gone to all the spots that everyone goes to, we wanted something different, so Helga completely adapted the tour so we could experience something new! We learned so much about the Viking history of Iceland and along with lots of stories, we also learned about what is being done to preserve the past. As an added bonus, she took us to the most magical garden full of flowers! I still can’t figure out how these floral and fauna are able to thrive in a climate such as Iceland. It was a joy to behold.

Helga was a wonderful guide on our Garden Tour in Ísafjörður. Dressed in traditional 1800s clothing, she painted a vivid picture of the hard life in the fishing village, making history come alive with her stories. The tour was very easy and comfortable since Helga drove us in her van, so there was little walking required. It ended in her beautiful garden, where we enjoyed coffee and the rare opportunity to relax in an authentic Icelandic home. Helga’s warmth, knowledge, and hospitality made this experience truly unforgettable. This was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on — absolutely not to be missed!

We arrived in Ísafjörður by cruise ship and were warmly greeted at the port by our fantastic guide, Tobias. From the very beginning, it felt more like meeting up with an old friend than starting a tour. As we strolled through the port area, Tobias shared fascinating stories about Iceland’s rich fishing history. We even stopped by a well-known fishmonger’s shop to pick up some freshly caught fish. Throughout the walk, Tobias continued to share insights into both Icelandic culture and his own life, making the experience feel deeply personal and authentic. One unexpected delight was a local cat who joined our walk, much to the kids' delight. It cleverly tagged along, knowing there would be a tasty reward of dried Icelandic fish treats—something we all got to sample as well. Our walk led us to Helga’s home, nestled on the lower hillside. There, we grilled the fresh fish we had purchased, picked herbs and greens from her beautiful garden, and sat down to an incredible tasting of homemade Icelandic dishes. Helga’s infused oils and salad dressings were a true highlight, and we finished the meal with sweet treats and coffee. What made this experience so special wasn’t just the delicious food or the scenic walk—it was the genuine hospitality. We were welcomed into Helga’s home like family. We shared stories, laughed together, and left with full hearts as well as full stomachs. If your travels bring you to Ísafjörður, this tour is a must. It’s so much more than an excursion—it’s a heartfelt connection. Compared to typical cruise line offerings, this experience felt like spending time with dear friends who truly love their country and life itself. Helga and Tobias made our visit unforgettable.
