Hotel Barentsburg is for those who seek something quieter. It’s not about luxury—it’s about depth. The food nourishes, the bar comforts, and the people remind you what hospitality looks like when it’s rooted in place, not performance. From my second visit here, I can tell that in a world that’s speeding up, Barentsburg is learning to move with intention. And in the stillness, you’ll find something rare: a place that’s real, and becoming more so. The decay is still visible, but so is the renewal. Murals are being restored. Buildings are being repurposed. And unlike Longyearbyen in summer, Barentsburg remains peaceful. No cruise ships unloading crowds. No selfie sticks in the snow. Just space—to think, to walk, to feel. This Soviet-era mining town clinging to the edge of the world, where rusted cranes loom over icy fjords and silence settles like snow, is quietly mesmerizing. The hotel stand for me like a beacon of warmth. The restaurant and bar are the beating heart of this Arctic outpost, offering warmth and flavor. The team is multilingual, welcoming, and genuinely invested in making your stay memorable. The rooms are so spacious, clean and a quiet refuge in a world that’s learning to breathe again.

We were welcome with a big smile. That brightened our day when it was a bit gloomy and drizzling. The hotel staff are all very helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was very good. Nice view rom the room.

Lovely stay in the beautiful month of March, 2024. The weather outside was very cold but very sunny and clear most days. The rooms: I really liked the room and the bed was comfortable and the view overlooking the fjord was stunning!! The bathroom was nice and I really appreciated the large bathtub and had a soak every night and never felt sore at all after a full day’s activities. This should really be a selling point for this place since most hotels on Svalbard just have shower and no bathtub 🛁 There is a lounge area on each floor but mostly the view from this area is the highlight of the space and you just stand there and take pictures or drink some water and think about your day. It’s a lovely space. The restaurant: really excellent food with 3 courses for each meal. I really loved the warm bread and the soup for lunch and dinner and the cottage cheese pancakes for breakfast. It did feel like a lot of food for each meal and sometimes I wish there had been a lighter option or an choice of a smaller plate but overall the food was excellent. I really enjoyed the berry compote drink at the table and found it very refreshing 😋 Staff: Super friendly and professional that made the stay much more enjoyable and made me feel at home. I didn’t try out the sauna but next time I am there I will have a go at it. Thanks everyone for making this place so special and unforgettable ❤️
