Plenty of viewpoints along the western edge of the canyon. You need to take a couple tens of stairs to get to the viewpoints from the parking, but it's worth it. We didn't have that clear blue water, but that's the price for higher water levels on the river (together with a closed viewpoint where you can get closer to the water). Definitely a place to see! We were even lucky to spend a night in the cabins nearby. Such a nice place!

Stuðlagil Canyon is absolutely stunning. The towering basalt columns lining the canyon combined with the striking turquoise glacial river create a jaw-dropping scene that feels almost unreal. The walk to the viewpoints is well worth the effort, with incredible photo opportunities at every turn. Powerful, dramatic and beautifully untouched, this is one of Iceland’s most impressive natural wonders and a must-see for anyone exploring the east of the country.

These are pictures (summer 2025) of the new viewing platforms and stairs down to the river on the WEST (tourist bus) side. I was very happy of the new additions as we were unable to rent a car and independently explore the east side as you see on social media. Very well done and made viewing the canyon safe and picturesque.
