Hotel Nordlys

We stayed at the B&B of Hotel Nordlys and loved it. It's a traditional Greenlandic house with 3 freshly white painted bedrooms. We stayed at the ground floor room which had a lovely terrace. As in many small Greenlandic villages, there's no plumbing so a bucket toilet it is 😊, you take a shower in the service house (almost next door and impeccably clean) and get water from a central water point. Breakfast is included and enjoyed in the bright sitting/dining room with floor to ceiling windows at Hotel Nordlys. Jacob, who was working at Hotel Nordlys for the season, was very welcoming and helpful. Ole, the owner, sailed us back to Ilullissat. We had a lovely dinner at restaurant H8, and a fantastic hike from Ilullissat to Oqaatsut (ok, minus the first 5km because of the new airport construction).

You’re paying for solitude, scenery, and a warm, personal welcome in a tiny Greenlandic community rather than polished service. If you’re drawn to nature, whales, hikes, and genuine hospitality, this will likely be one of the most memorable stays of your Greenland trip.
