I was super relieved to find this place when I got tired of the road conditions. It's super comfortable and clean, the owner is very kind, and they had the room stocked generously with coffee, hot chocolate and popcorn. The room was also perfectly equipped with a can opener and bowls which would have been great considering my gas station dinner options. Great place to stay! Very grateful they were open and so welcoming!

We stayed at the Backwoods Lodge during our trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks over Thanksgiving week 2025. The location was perfect — tucked away in a quiet spot yet convenient for exploring the area. The owners were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a cozy retreat after long days on the road. They were flexible when we needed to adjust our reservation, which we really appreciated, and they provided plenty of helpful local tips about dining, sightseeing, and travel conditions. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests’ experience. Overall, Backwoods Lodge exceeded our expectations. If you’re traveling through Alaska and want a comfortable stay with genuine hospitality, this is the place to book.

Extremely nice owners, helped me out when my tire got popped just outside of cantwell. They gave a me a room late at night and offered a ride to my car and let me stay in, they took amazing care of me and the rooms are amazing. If you're ever looking for an amazing place and driving through cantwell. This is your place.
