We had an amazing trip with Peel Wilderness Aviation today. Despite morning fog spoiling our plans for a guided day hike, Colin and Sam quickly rescheduled us once the fog cleared, with our pilot, Tom, taking us to the Ogilvie mountains (via tombstone). The weather was beautiful allowing for some stupendous views (thiugh hiking uphill through muskeg was more challenging than anticipated)! Really highly recommended if you're in the area, and book in advance for custom tours - Colin went above and beyond to set something up for us.

What an absolutely unforgettable adventure with Peel Wilderness Aviation! Our incredible pilot, Jack, lifted us off from Dawson Airport and flew us over breathtaking Yukon landscapes all the way to magnificent Tombstone. Jack then treated us to an exhilarating aerial tour over Dawson, where we marvelled at the stunning patterns of the historic dredge tailings from above. Anyone visiting anywhere near Dawson City, Yukon, owes it to themselves to book a tour. It’s not just sightseeing, it’s a rare, unforgettable view of one of the most breathtaking places on earth.

We loved our Half-Day Arctic tour. It comprised two passages through the Tombstone Territorial Park with its massive granite peaks. The tour goes beyond the lower part of the Peel river (although not up in the North Western Territories. You will likely land at the Wiley Airstrip which is located precisely at the arctic circle (parallel 66.49). The parallel of the Arctic Circle is a line of latitude at approximately 66.5 degrees North (or 66°30' to 66°34' N) that marks the southernmost extent of the region experiencing the phenomenon of a polar night and midnight sun at least once a year. This parallel is not fixed but shifts slightly over time due to the Earth's axial tilt, currently moving northward by about 15 meters per year. It takes about one hour getting there from Dawson's airport. From there, you can chose options if the pilot is willing. We landed on the river bank of the Peel river. It was spectacular to say the least. On the way back, we went through the granite peaks in the Tombstone park. The colours were marvelous. For tips: bring cash, the pilot does not have a payment system for a tip. Many thanks to our pilot and Peel Wilderness Aviation for this amazing tour. For more info: The Half-Day Arctic Circle Adventure, offered by Peel Wilderness Aviation (operating under Peel Wilderness Adventures), is a scenic flight tour originating from Dawson City in Yukon Territory, Canada. This excursion enables participants to explore the remote northern wilderness from the air, focusing on the pristine landscapes of the Peel Watershed and the striking Aberdeen Canyon along the Peel River. Departures are scheduled at either 9:00 AM or 2:00 PM, with the tour spanning approximately four hours and featuring a landing at a remote airstrip north of the Arctic Circle along the Dempster Highway. Throughout the flight, experienced pilots provide commentary on key features, including sub-Arctic tundra, alpine mountains, rivers, and habitats that may host indigenous wildlife species. The route proceeds northward through the Peel Watershed, showcasing seldom-visited terrain, and concludes with a landing where a fresh meal, prepared by a local café, is provided. This tour suits individuals desiring an engaging introduction to Yukon's Arctic environment without a full-day obligation. Operations occur seasonally and are contingent on favorable weather, utilizing aircraft designed for northern conditions, such as those equipped with tundra-tire wheels.
